Russia has issued a grave warning that former U.S. President Donald Trump’s authorization for military strikes against Iran could escalate into a global conflict. Dmitry Medvedev, the former president and current deputy chair of Russia’s Security Council, accused Trump of having “started a new war” for the United States.

Medvedev stated, “Trump, who came in as a peacemaker president, has started a new war for the U.S. With this kind of success, Trump won’t win the Nobel Peace Prize.” Leonid Slutsky, the head of the Russian State Duma’s international affairs committee, cautioned that the U.S.-Iran situation could spiral out of control, saying, “The consequences of the escalation threaten to go beyond the region.”

Trump’s decision to strike Iranian nuclear facilities has drawn widespread condemnation from various global leaders. Analysts express concern that Iran’s anticipated retaliation might trigger a larger conflict in the Middle East, potentially drawing in Russia, China, and other significant powers. Kremlin-affiliated political analyst Sergei Markov warned, “If Iran responds asymmetrically—through proxies, cyberattacks, or closing the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. will have to escalate further. That’s when regional war becomes global.”

The White House has yet to respond directly to Russia’s warnings. However, Pentagon officials have reiterated that the strikes were “limited and precise” aimed at preventing further nuclear escalation. With Tehran’s parliament approving a bill to potentially close the Strait of Hormuz a vital oil passage concerns about an economic and military crisis are intensifying. As global markets brace for potential oil shocks and military analysts warn of rapid escalation, the world is closely monitoring whether Trump’s actions will lead to de-escalation or a full-scale war.
