Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA), in partnership with the City of Ekurhuleni’s Department of Development Planning and Real Estate, hosted an event yesterday, June 4, 2025, at Boksburg City Hall to help informal traders. This event provided training and essential business equipment to support township entrepreneurs, giving them the tools they need to succeed.

Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa believes that informal traders are crucial to the economy and often serve as the backbone of their communities. However, many face challenges like limited access to funding, training, and market opportunities. By investing in these entrepreneurs, Coca-Cola is not only helping individuals thrive but also supporting the overall economic growth of the region.

Through training programs, Coca-Cola equips traders with important skills that improve their business knowledge. The training program, delivered by the City of Ekurhuleni, focused on critical areas such as customer service, financial management, and business operations, enhancing the traders’ business acumen, professionalism, and financial literacy.

Access to quality business equipment is essential for any entrepreneur. Recognizing this need, Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa provided each of the 113 qualifying traders with essential Coca-Cola-branded business equipment, including a trolley, umbrella, and uniform. The total investment from CCBSA amounts to R936,000. Beneficiaries will also be connected to dedicated CCBSA distributors, ensuring access to stock, delivery, and ongoing supply chain support.

When Coca-Cola invests in township entrepreneurs, they unlock real economic value where it matters most—on the ground. This initiative creates job opportunities and stimulates local economies. As traders gain confidence and see their businesses grow, they contribute to their communities by creating jobs and supporting local suppliers.

“Our involvement in this programme reflects our commitment to uplifting informal traders and building stronger, more resilient local economies,” said Michael Tsholo, Commercial General Manager of CCBSA in Gauteng. “By equipping informal traders with skills and tools, we’re not just enabling commerce but supporting the future of Ekurhuleni’s communities.”

Coca-Cola believes in the concept of shared value: when our traders win, we all win. The initiative by Coca-Cola Beverages and the City of Ekurhuleni shows the positive impact that can happen when the private and public sectors work together to support local entrepreneurs. Together, they are paving the way for a more sustainable and inclusive economy.
