Two arrested in courier vehicle hijacking in Dobsonville

Two suspects have been arrested after being found in possession of goods that were inside a courier vehicle that was hijacked in Dobsonville, Soweto.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, Spokesperson of the Gauteng SAPS, the suspects were driving a gold VW Polo hijacked a courier vehicle in Dobsonville and drove around with the occupants, eventually dropping them off in Mofolo North. “Officers from the Soweto Flying Squad spotted a suspicious VW Polo with five occupants inside and proceeded to stop the vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle and occupants,police found two microwaves suspected of being taken from the hijacked courier vehicle,” said Lieut Col Masondo. Two suspects were arrested,while another three managed to escape. He added that preliminary investigations led the police to a house in Dube, Soweto, where two more suspects were arrested after being found in possession of two fridges that were taken during the hijacking. “Police also recovered a Kia bakkie was reported stolen in Eldorado Park in 2023. A total of four suspects were arrested and the search for more suspects is underway,” said Lieut Col Masondo. The arrested suspects will appear in court soon,facing charges that include attempted murder, car hijacking, possession of hijacked vehicle, possession of unlicensed firearm.
